Director of Operational Innovation & Six Sigma
Job Specification:
The Leader of Operational Innovation & Six Sigma will play a critical role in driving continuous improvement across all JA Resorts & Hotels properties and beyond.
This high-impact position is designed for a strategic leader who can spearhead operational excellence initiatives, leveraging Six Sigma and Lean methodologies to enhance guest satisfaction, increase efficiency, and drive measurable financial improvements.
The role involves working as a member of the JARH Steering Committee and working closely with the Cluster General Managers (CGMs), General Managers (GMs), Heads of Departments (HODs), and team leaders across the organization to implement a comprehensive program of operational innovation.
The Leader will also be responsible for developing and coaching Operational Innovation colleagues, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and ensuring that all innovation projects align with the company's strategic goals.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a strategic Operational Innovation program tailored to each property within the JA Resorts & Hotels portfolio.
- Collaborate with the CEO and the Steering Committee to prioritize and select key projects that align with the company's business strategy.
- Work in collaboration with the property Executive Committees to identify business opportunities identified through profit and loss accounts.
- Lead and manage multiple large-scale projects simultaneously, applying DMAIC methodology, Lean tools, and innovative process improvement techniques.
- Maintain rigorous project schedules, ensuring that all stakeholders are informed of progress and any potential barriers are promptly addressed.
- Foster a collaborative and motivated project environment, providing clear direction, active listening, and performance recognition.
- Partner with GMs and HODs to develop and nominate departments for Lean Operational Reviews (LOR), including problem statements, productivity data, and business cases.
- Lead Lean Operational Reviews across various departments and ensure the successful implementation of recommended improvements.
- Work in collaboration with the property Executive Committees to identify opportunities arising from guests feedback.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the Operational Innovation team and the broader organization, effectively communicating the progress and successes of various initiatives.
- Demonstrate strong leadership capabilities, acting as a champion of continuous improvement and driving a culture of operational excellence across the organization.
- Develop and implement a 5-year OI plan that will support the 5-year proforma at JARH whilst ensuring that the plan adapts to the marketplace.
- Prepare annually a group and property specific Operational Innovation strategic budget plan.
- Coach and mentor Operational Innovation colleagues to enhance their project management, 6Sigma and lean skills, ensuring the successful delivery of operational innovation activities.
- Engage and inspire GMs, HODs, and all associates to actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
- Report and present monthly updates ongoing projects, quarterly on ROI’s on existing projects and provide and update on pipeline priority projects.
Experience and Skills:
- Certified Black Belt in Lean/Lean Six Sigma, with a proven track record of successfully managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Extensive experience in using Lean tools for process improvement and change management.
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in a relevant field is required; advanced degree preferred.
- Significant experience in hospitality management, with a strong understanding of operational processes and customer service excellence is preferred but not intended to exclude the best candidate.
